Cardiac Cath Lab

At The Alexandra Hospital, our Cardiac Catheter Laboratory delivers high‑quality, modern cardiac care using advanced technology and expert clinical teams. Our next‑generation hybrid catheterisation and electrophysiology suite allows us to diagnose and treat a wide range of heart conditions in one seamless, safe, and efficient environment.

Our team delivers a broad range of minimally invasive and complex cardiac procedures. These include coronary angiography, electrophysiology studies for heart rhythm conditions, transoesophageal echocardiograms, and specialist testing such as Ajmaline challenge procedures for Brugada syndrome.
We also carry out a full spectrum of diagnostic and interventional treatments, such as:

  • Coronary angiography (cardiac catheterisation, including right and left heart catheter studies)
  • Electrophysiology studies (EPS) for heart rhythm disorders
  • Transoesophageal echocardiograms
  • Ajmaline challenge testing for Brugada syndrome
  • Coronary angioplasty (PCI) and stent placement using the latest technologies, including Intravascular Lithotripsy, IVUS, and Coroventis for the assessment and treatment of microvascular angina
  • Pacemaker and implantable defibrillator (ICD/CRT) insertion
  • Loop recorder implantation
  • Catheter ablation for arrhythmias, including next‑generation pulsed field ablation
  • Transcatheter valve treatments (including TAVI)
  • Patent foramen ovale (PFO) closure

These approaches allow us to treat many heart conditions without the need for open‑heart surgery, supporting quicker recovery and reduced risk.

Every patient is cared for by an experienced multidisciplinary team. Consultant Cardiologists and Electrophysiologists lead the service, supported by highly specialised Cardiac Physiologists, dedicated Cath Lab nurses, advanced cardiac radiographers and skilled anaesthetic and critical care teams. Working together, they ensure that every procedure is delivered safely, efficiently and with a personalised approach.

Our investment in technology is central to the care we provide. The hybrid Cath Lab theatre combines advanced imaging, diagnostics and treatment capabilities in a single space, allowing clinicians to work with outstanding precision:

  •  A hybrid Cath Lab theatre combining imaging, diagnostics, and treatment in one space
  • Real‑time high‑resolution imaging systems
  • Next‑generation ablation technology for the treatment of arrhythmias
  • Fully integrated monitoring and haemodynamic systems

Many of these systems are usually found only in major specialist centres, meaning patients AT The Alexandra Hospital have access to exceptionally advanced care without leaving the region.
