Ross Hall Clinic Braehead offers private sports injuries physiotherapy services in Glasgow and further afield
While sports and regular exercise are hugely beneficial to our health, occasionally injuries occur that require treatment. Most commonly these occur after a collision or other trauma (acute injuries), or as a result of overuse of a certain muscle or joint over a prolonged period of time (chronic injuries).
Sports injuries can affect any part of the body, but are most common in the lower limbs, particularly the knees and ankles. The sooner you receive treatment for an injury, the better.
If you do require a sports injury physiotherapist in Glasgow, you will work closely with your sports injuries physiotherapist to understand the mechanism of your injury, the location and severity of the injury and the impact on your sport and lifestyle. This will include a physical assessment to properly assess your range of motion, muscle strength, balance, function and coordination. From here, you will work together to comprise an individualised treatment plan which may include strengthening & stretching exercise, hands-on techniques, and sports massages.
If pain is severe, corticosteroid injections into the affected joint may be recommended. These can be effective in alleviating the pain in the short term and can be used in conjunction with your prescribed physiotherapy plan.
If you have an acute sports injury, you may experience varying symptoms including sudden and severe pain, the inability to weight bear, difficulty moving the affected area (anywhere from the foot and ankle up to the neck and shoulder), weakness in the area, bruising and swelling, and sometimes, deformity of the bone or joint. If you have a chronic sports injury, you may have swelling, an ongoing ache, and pain during activities.
There are numerous conditions of which you may require a sports injuries physiotherapist in your recovery journey. These can include things like sprains and strains, swelling, fractures, bruising, dislocations, anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries, Achilles tendon ruptures, rotator cuff injuries, and tendonitis.
