The purpose of the postural assessment service in Glasgow is to provide insights and advice on proper posture and work with you to address any imbalance or weakness associated with incorrect posture. Improving alignment and posture has numerous benefits, from simple everyday sitting and standing, through to reducing the likelihood of sports injuries.

A postural assessment in Glasgow is dedicated to assessing your posture and addressing means of improving said posture to give you an optimum outcome, whether it be addressing pain or mitigating the risk of injury. Your physiotherapist will work together with you to assess your current posture, with numerous components accounted for within your postural assessment.

Posture is the position in which someone holds their body when standing or sitting. Poor posture, otherwise known as postural dysfunction, is when the body is not properly positioned either in a neutral or symmetrical manner. This can be caused by muscle imbalance, poor core stability, lifestyle, and occupation.

Your head on neck position will be addressed. From here, your shoulders – are they level and symmetrical, how rounded are they, are they internally rotated? Your thoracic spine will also be assessed, identifying whether you have an increased or decreased thoracic kyphosis, before looking at your general spine curvature and whether there is a spinal scoliosis via a poster assessment. More so, your lumbar spine will be assessed both from the side and from the back, aiming to identify things such as a flattened lumbar spine or muscle spasms.

Moving down to the pelvis, your physiotherapist will be able to identify any posterior or anterior tilt as well as your iliac crest levels. Moving further down to the hips and knees, numerous observations will be taken regarding your hips and if they are level, internally or externally rotated, if there is a visible gluteal bulk, and if they are in extension of flexion, and if your knees are hyperextended or not.
From the above thorough assessment, your physiotherapist will be able to identify your overall postural type, and as such inform you of what structures may be at risk with your current posture. From here you will work together to address these findings and improve your posture.

There are numerous reasons you may need to utilise the postural assessment service in Glasgow. This will vary with age, profession, level of activity, lifestyle and existing pain or concerns. Working together with your physiotherapist, you will gain a full understanding of your posture and identifying current and future areas of concern, which can subsequently be addressed to enhance your existing quality of life.

A postural assessment in Glasgow costs £88, with sessions lasting 45 minutes. Follow-up sessions cost £65 and last 30 minutes.
