The pelvic health physiotherapy service in Glasgow is run by our Specialist Pelvic Physiotherapist. The service supports patients with a variety of pelvic conditions ranging from continence issues and prolapse to post surgery recovery and pre-natal and post-partum concerns. The service is designed to help both male and female patients using a combination of assessment and treatments to combat pelvic conditions and enhance your everyday life.

The pelvic health physiotherapy service in Glasgow is designed to address a range of pelvic concerns and issues across both females and males. You will work in tandem with the Specialist Pelvic Physiotherapist to assess your condition and how it affects your everyday life. In your first session, you will go through a number of steps including discussing your symptoms and history, going over your consent and what the sessions may entail, undergoing a vaginal or rectal examination, and beginning the exercise therapy or other recommended treatment.

The main purpose of this first session is to understand what muscles need to be ‘worked’ more or ‘worked’ less. For example, what areas may require more contraction or more relaxation. From here, you will work closely with the specialist physiotherapist to create an individual treatment plan tailored to their specific requirements. This plan will help shape any follow-up sessions, as well as identifying what exercises patients should undertake in their own time to ensure they can maximise the results they achieve. It is important to note that if patients do not carry out the recommended exercises in their own time as discussed, you may not be able to achieve the results initially set out.

There are a number of treatment options available including exercise therapy, electrical muscle stimulation (EMS), biofeedback, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS), and percutaneous tibial nerve stimulation (PTNS).

There are a variety of issues which can be addressed at the pelvic health physiotherapy service in Glasgow. These include general pelvic floor issues, incontinence, prolapse, sexual issues including dysfunction and pain, pre-natal lower back pain, pelvic pain and incontinence, post-partum issues (4-6 weeks post-delivery), labour/delivery education and techniques, and finally post-surgery recovery from surgeries including hysterectomies and pelvic floor repairs.

A pelvic health physiotherapy session in Glasgow costs £88, with sessions lasting 45 minutes. Follow-up sessions cost £65 and last 30 minutes.
