Private gait analysis in Glasgow

Ross Hall Clinic Braehead offers private gait analysis services in Glasgow and further afield

Gait analysis footscan and Phits 3D printed insoles
Gait analysis is a biomechanical examination carried out to determine asymmetries and abnormalities when walking or running. Gait analysis aims to identify the source of nerve, muscle or skeletal problems, as well as aiding in diagnosing skeletal misalignment and other bone deformities. In turn, this can highlight why you are suffering pain when either standing or walking.

Within the gait analysis service, we also offer Phits+ 3D Insoles. The dynamic gait analysis from the Footscan® technology helps to design the 3D printed insoles, which in turn can help to reduce risk of reinjury, be used as an alternative to surgery, be used in post-surgical recovery, and for a range of other conditions.

A gait analysis begins with a static scan which looks at posture and weight distribution when you are standing. The system can also enable your physiotherapist to monitor your balance and movement efficiency with tasks including squatting and jumping, if required. From here, you will undergo a dynamic gait analysis to assess how you walk – for those more active you can also undergo a running assessment. The Footscan® technology provides a range of visual analysis screens which you and your physiotherapist will use to discuss your gait and next steps.

The results of the gait analysis can then be used for numerous reasons. They can be used to diagnose foot, ankle, hip and knee related issues, as well as providing evidence-based treatment and rehabilitation programmes. The data can also identify your risk of injury based on your natural movement, as well as be used to provide key insights in designing customised Phits+ 3D Insoles specific to your needs. The results of the Footscan® analysis help to design these insoles from real time dynamic data used to restore biomechanical imbalances in your lower limbs, as well as provide tailored support and cushioning. Accurately translating your movements into a bespoke insoles is a wholly unique process made possibly only through the use of the 3D printing capabilities.

Gait analysis is important to ensure you perform daily tasks in an optimal manner, helping you to better understand your dynamic posture and coordination and as such working to prevent injury and avoid reinjury, as well as enhance performance from everyday tasks through to advanced sporting activities. The biomechanical examination determines the efficiency of your body movements when walking or running, identifying asymmetries and abnormalities in your foot strike and loading pattern which can lead to causing joint, muscle, ligament or tendon soreness further up the body in the ankle, knee, hip and back.

The results of your gait analysis will enable you and your physiotherapist to work together to address existing issues and tailor a treatment plan to get you back to walking, running or competing pain free.

The Phits+ 3D Insoles technology can be used to minimise pain, reduce the risk of reinjury, and improve comfort and foot mechanics. Furthermore, its application is useful in those who play sports and have an active lifestyle, experience pain when walking or running, suffer from sore feet, have lower limb and back pain, osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, post tibialis tendon dysfunction (PTTD), Morton’s neuroma, live with conditions like plantar fasciitis, flat feet, bunions, neuromas and hammer toes, and those with balance issues or bad posture.

A gait analysis in Glasgow costs £88, with sessions lasting 45 minutes. Follow-up sessions cost £65 and last 30 minutes.

Phits+ 3D Insoles start from £300 for a standard pair and £350 for a sports pair. They take 2-3 weeks to be printed and delivered. A return consultation for fitting is included at no extra cost.
