Private General Surgery Services at The Kings Park Hospital in Stirling.
Our friendly hospital is located in a pleasant, accessible setting and attracts people from across Forth Valley and the central belt of Scotland.
We assure you of high-quality service at The Kings Park Hospital, where you’ll get swift access to experienced Consultant General Surgeons with decades of experience in treating all kinds of conditions. They are supported by expert local teams dedicated to your care and comfort.
General surgery has revolutionised over the last 20 years, with many minimally invasive keyhole (laparoscopic) surgeries now performed. You can walk out of the hospital on the same day as your treatment and, as a result, your recovery is faster.
At The Kings Park Hospital, our treatments include surgery for conditions such as gallstones, hernias, reflux and lumps and bumps.
Most general surgery procedures are on a day-case basis. We offer keyhole surgeries for the following common complaints:
We can remove lipomas (fatty lumps) or cysts under local anaesthetic (medicine for pain relief) where you’re conscious, but the area is numbed. However, we may give a general anaesthetic to put you to sleep if we’re removing a large, deep lipoma.
As well as surgery, the hospital is equipped for camera investigations of intestinal disorders, including endoscopy/gastroscopy (examining your stomach using a long thin tube with a light and camera at one end) and colonoscopy (a similar instrument to look at your bowel).
An endoscopy is when the consultant inserts an endoscope through your mouth. They pass it down your oesophagus and into your stomach to detect abnormalities such as ulcers and polyps in the upper digestive area. Your consultant would put a local anaesthetic spray to the back of your throat to make the procedure as comfortable as possible.
A colonoscopy is carried out to examine the large bowel and is when a colonoscope is inserted through the anus and up the rectum. It is usually required if you’ve had symptoms such as blood in your stools, pain or persistent constipation or diarrhoea.
Other treatments we offer include:
Our team will welcome you and look after you from the moment you arrive at the hospital. You can expect to be introduced to your consultant on arrival and guided to a quiet, private outpatient consultation room.
During the consultation, your experienced consultant will go over your medical history and give you as much time as you need to discuss your concerns.
You can usually have an x-ray on the same day of your consultation, and if you require surgery, your consultant will arrange for that to take place at The Kings Park Hospital at a later date.
If your consultant asks you to have a CT (computerised tomography) or MRI scan (magnetic resonance imaging), these will occur at our sister hospital, The Ross Hall Hospital in Glasgow. These scans take detailed images of your internal body structures, including your organs and tissues.
On the day of your operation, you’ll see your consultant, who will perform your surgery, and your anaesthetist, who will administer your anaesthetic and monitor you throughout the procedure.
After surgery, you’ll recover in one of our comfortable private rooms, which all have an en-suite bathroom.
Whatever treatment you receive, whether it’s surgery or diagnostics, you’ll be given clear information on how you can recover as quickly as possible before being discharged.
We don’t have waiting lists at The Kings Park Hospital, which means you can get peace of mind as soon as possible and access treatment quickly, so you recover faster.
