Cosmetic Surgeon marking a patient
Plastic surgery is a medical specialty focused on reconstructing, repairing, or altering your body to enhance your function, appearance, or both. It encompasses two primary areas: reconstructive surgery and cosmetic (or aesthetic) surgery.

Reconstructive surgery

Reconstructive surgery is a medical treatment that aims to restore your function and appearance following a traumatic injury, surgery, a birth defect, or certain medical conditions that result in an abnormality or deformity. It includes procedures such as skin grafts for burn repair, facial reconstruction after trauma, or the correction of congenital issues such as cleft palates, making it medically necessary.

Cosmetic surgery

Cosmetic surgery is performed to improve or alter your appearance for aesthetic purposes, helping you feel better in your own skin and more self-confident. It includes procedures such as breast augmentation (enlargement), rhinoplasty (a nose job), and liposuction (fat removal).

Although they are not always medically necessary, these procedures can help improve your physical function and self-esteem, dramatically improving your quality of life and overall sense of self.

Does plastic surgery use plastic?

The name 'plastic surgery' does not mean that plastic materials are used in the operations. Instead, the word comes from the Greek plastikos, meaning 'to shape’ or ‘to mould’. Plastic surgery is concerned with reshaping tissues of the body, whether that involves skin, fat, or deeper structures.

While some procedures may involve the use of implants, such as silicone breast implants, the specialty itself refers to the skill of reshaping, not the materials used.

At the Circle Cheshire Clinic in Northwich, our team of dedicated plastic surgeons use their unparalleled skill and expertise to perform reconstructive and plastic surgery across a broad range of treatment options.

They play a transformative role in the lives of patients, helping them return to everyday life with newfound function and even self-love. We don’t just treat people based in Northwich – people travel to experience our exceptional care and plastic surgery options from outside of Cheshire, Greater Manchester, and beyond.

When you go private, you can access the treatment you deserve, quickly, with a consultant of your choice.

To find out more about Circle Cheshire Clinic, call us or book online to arrange your first appointment.

Your first appointment with a plastic surgeon will focus on your goals and expectations for surgery, especially if your surgery is cosmetic. It is important to be open with your consultant about your motivations for surgery and what you expect from the outcome of the procedure.

Your consultant will perform a physical examination, particularly focused on the area(s) of your body you wish to alter. They will use this examination, combined with a discussion of your medical history and specific desires and needs, to determine the best surgical approach for you.

If your procedure is reconstructive, your consultation will be focused more on your medical needs and the best treatment options available for you. The appointment might also involve scans or tests, such as an X-Ray, MRI, or blood test, to better understand your individual healthcare needs.

After your consultant has decided on the best treatment option for you, they will let you know the cost of treatment, which will usually be in the form of a fixed-price package.

Your initial consultation is a safe space for you to ask as many questions as you would like to feel informed and empowered about your healthcare plan. Your consultant and expert healthcare team are there to meet your every need, so do not hesitate to lean on them for as much information and support as possible.

Here are some of the most common plastic surgery options performed by our excellent team of plastic surgeons.

Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty, commonly known as eyelid surgery, is a cosmetic or reconstructive procedure designed to improve the appearance of your upper or lower eyelids by removing excess skin, fat, and muscle.

Over time, the skin around your eyes can lose its elasticity, leading to droopy or puffy eyelids that can create a tired or aged appearance. In some cases, you might even struggle with your vision because of the drooped skin.

During a blepharoplasty, your consultant will make small incisions along the natural folds of your eyelids to minimise visible scarring. Through these incisions, they will remove or reposition the tissue with specialist instruments to achieve a smoother, more youthful appearance.

Pinnaplasty

Pinnaplasty, also known as ear reshaping surgery, is a straightforward procedure designed to bring prominent or protruding ears closer to the front of your head for a more balanced look.
It is a popular choice for both children and adults who feel self-conscious about their ears and want a simple way to boost their confidence.

During the procedure, your consultant will make a small incision just behind your ear to gently reshape and fold the cartilage, creating a natural finish that suits your unique features.
Pinnaplasty can make a big difference in how you feel about the appearance of your ears, giving you the freedom to feel more at ease and confident with your overall appearance.

The excision of a lip lesion

A lip lesion is an abnormal area on your lip that can appear as a bump, sore, ulcer, or discoloured patch. It might need to be surgically removed if your consultant suspects it might be caused by an underlying issue, such as cancerous cells.

Even benign lesions can be removed if they are bothersome, aesthetically unappealing, or recurrent.

During this minimally invasive procedure, your consultant will numb the area around your lesion with a local anaesthetic, then they will make a small incision around the area, sometimes including a margin of healthy tissue to ensure the entire lesion is removed.

After they remove the lesion, it will be sent for further testing to determine whether it has cancerous cells. The incision is then closed with fine sutures.

The removal of a lipoma

A lipoma is a benign, fatty tumour under your skin. These growths are usually slow-growing, painless, and have a soft, rubbery feel.

Lipomas can appear almost anywhere on your body but are mostly found on your neck, shoulders, back, abdomen, and thighs. They vary in size, ranging from very small (pea-sized) to several inches, and are usually movable under the skin.

Removal of a lipoma is a minimally invasive procedure using specialist tools to remove the lipoma and carefully separate it from its surrounding tissue.

The wedge excision or avulsion of your nailbed

This is often performed to treat issues such as ingrown toenails or infections.

During a wedge excision, your consultant will remove a small, wedge-shaped portion of your nail along with part of your underlying skin, which helps reshape the nail and prevent future issues.

In cases where your entire nail is damaged, such as with an extensive infection, a full avulsion will be performed, which involves removing your nail completely.

Whatever treatment you need, our team of experts at Circle Cheshire Clinic is here to support you.

The cost of plastic surgery varies depending on the type of procedure, its complexity, and whether multiple treatments are carried out at the same time. For example, a simple mole or skin lesion removal may start from a few hundred pounds, while more complex operations like breast surgery or trauma reconstruction surgery involve higher fees.

At Circle Health Group, we are committed to transparent pricing. You will always receive a clear breakdown of costs in advance, including consultant and anaesthetist fees, hospital and theatre charges, and all follow-up appointments. Private medical insurance sometimes covers reconstructive plastic surgery, such as procedures following trauma or cancer surgery, but usually does not cover cosmetic treatments. If you are self-funding, flexible payment plans are available to make treatment more accessible.
