Bishops Wood Hospital - Rapid Access Breast Clinic
Rapid access to the Bupa accredited breast care service includes fast access to a consultation with a specialist consultant breast surgeon and a Macmillan breast care nurse specialist. On-site diagnostics are available for the patient after the consultation if a digital mammography or ultrasound is required. Results are interpreted by a specialist radiographer and are delivered by the consultant on the same day.
The breast care team manages all aspects of breast disease/symptoms including family history. The one stop clinic allows patients to receive a fast diagnosis and in many cases, gives them the re-assurance they were looking for.

Digital mammography
The mammography unit is staffed by accredited radiographers and was installed in June 2013. The unit offers general mammography as well as more specialised views. The unit is fully equipped for digital stereotactic localisation to aid biopsy and fine needle aspiration of soft tissue lesions. Our accredited consultant radiologists performing these techniques are specialists in this field.
At Bishops Wood Hospital our consultant breast surgeons perform surgery for benign and malignant (cancerous) disease. If you have breast related symptoms you may undergo investigations which may include ultrasound or mammography, FNA (fine needle aspiration) and CT X-Ray guided biopsy.
Common operations include biopsy, excision of breast lump (lumpectomy) and mastectomy (removal of the breast). Clinical breast oncologists (breast cancer specialists) provide further advice on radiotherapy, hormonal and chemotherapy treatment if appropriate. Breast surgery also includes reconstructive procedures such as breast implants and breast reduction.
