Below are some frequently asked questions about the private GP service at Bishops Wood Hospital.

Can I see the same GP I saw last time?

If you're booking directly with our enquiry centre via telephone or if you book online, then you can choose the same GP as many times as you like.

If I need further treatment, can I choose where I go?

Yes. The choice is entirely yours. Your GP can help by writing a referral or recommendation letter depending on your condition and circumstances and will discuss all the options with you during your visit. Bishops Wood Hospital offers direct access to a consultant of your choice in a wide range of specialities.

How long will my private GP visit last?

Initial consultations are 30 mins long and follow up consultations are 15 mins long

Can private GP services issue prescriptions?

Yes. All GPs can issue prescriptions. However, a private prescription is different from an NHS prescription. Your GP will discuss this with you during your visit if you need a prescription for medication.

Can a private GP refer to the NHS?

Yes, in some instances a private GP is able to refer patients for NHS treatment. It will depend on the individual circumstances. If you are booking an appointment in order to get a referral to an NHS specialist, please give us a call and we'll advise you on whether it's possible.

Accessing private healthcare is easy, whether you choose to pay directly or use private medical insurance. If your GP recommends further treatment may be required, a full rate card of all procedures is available.

If you are paying for yourself, we can usually offer an upfront cost which you can then choose to pay in full or access one of our easy payment options.

If you have insurance, we can arrange direct settlement with your insurance provider, although you should check in advance to see if your treatment is covered. For more information, visit our private medical insurance page.
