Arthrosamid® treatment is offered at Bishops Wood Hospital by a team of highly experienced knee orthopaedic surgeons.
At Bishops Wood Hospital, Arthrosamid® injections are offered by experienced orthopaedic consultants, including:
Recovery
Most patients resume normal activities within a few days. Your consultant will provide tailored aftercare advice.
Your consultant will assess your suitability during your consultation.
If Arthrosamid® isn’t suitable, we also offer:
Driving and Transport
Please do not drive for at least 24 hours following your injection. We advise arranging for a friend or family member to collect you. If needed, our team can help organise a taxi service for your journey home.
Returning to Work
You can return to work as soon as you feel ready, depending on the nature of your job. If your role involves physical activity, your consultant may advise a short period of rest.
This is the most common side effect and typically settles within a few days. Over-the-counter pain relief such as paracetamol or ibuprofen can help manage any discomfort.
Some patients may experience temporary stiffness or tenderness in the knee following the injection. This usually improves on its own.
In rare cases, a fluid-filled swelling known as a Baker’s cyst may develop behind the knee. It often resolves without treatment but may require further care if persistent.
Although uncommon, allergic reactions to the hydrogel or local anaesthetic can occur. Our clinical team is fully prepared to manage any allergic response immediately and safely.
Very rarely, an infection may develop in the joint. This is a serious but treatable complication, typically managed with antibiotics.
Is the Arthrosamid® injection painful?
No, the procedure is generally not painful. A local anaesthetic is used to numb the area before the injection, so while you may feel some pressure, you shouldn’t feel pain. If you do experience discomfort during the procedure, let your consultant know immediately.
How soon will I feel the effects of Arthrosamid®?
Some patients notice improvement within 24 hours, but the full benefits typically develop over four to twelve weeks. Most people report a significant reduction in knee pain within the first month after treatment.
Can I have Arthrosamid® in both knees?
Yes, Arthrosamid® can be administered in both knees if you have osteoarthritis affecting both joints. Your consultant will assess your condition and recommend the most appropriate treatment plan for you.
How long does the effect of one injection last?
Arthrosamid® is designed to provide long-term relief, with clinical studies showing benefits lasting up to three years from a single injection.
How is Arthrosamid® different from hyaluronic acid injections?
Both treatments aim to lubricate and cushion the knee joint, but there are key differences:
Whether you're exploring Arthrosamid® as an alternative to surgery or seeking long-term relief from knee pain, our team is here to support you every step of the way.
