1 in 8 men in the UK will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. In 2024, prostate cancer remained the most common cancer in men, with over 50,000 new cases diagnosed (Data and Evidence | Prostate Cancer UK).

The challenge? Most men won’t experience any symptoms in the early stages, making regular screening the only reliable way to detect it early - when it’s almost always treatable.

At Bath Clinic, we offer a comprehensive range of prostate cancer screening packages designed to provide clarity, reassurance, and expert guidance about your health.

You can choose a pathway that suits your needs, including specialist-led consultations with either an experienced GP or a Consultant, alongside advanced diagnostic options. These include MRI scanning - widely regarded as the most accurate method for the early detection of prostate cancer.

Whose at risk?

Prostate cancer is most common in men over 50 years of age. Black men, or men with a family history of prostate cancer are also at higher risk. You can easily check your risk using a simple online tool provided by Prostate Cancer UK. https://prostatecanceruk.org/risk-checker

While early prostate cancer often has no symptoms, here are some signs to watch out for:

• Needing to pee more often - especially at night
• Rushing to the toilet with urgency
• Difficulty starting to pee or needing to strain
• Weak or slow urine flow
• Feeling like your bladder hasn’t fully emptied
• Blood in your urine

These symptoms can also be caused by non-cancerous conditions like an enlarged prostate - but it’s always best to get checked.

Depending on the package chosen, you will have either a face to face or a telephone consultation with a GP or Consultant. This meeting will be to gather information and where appropriate carry out any investigations.

You will be requested to come to Bath Clinic to have the diagnostics carried out that are included in your chosen package. Where possible we try to do these all in one visit.

A few days later, you will either be invited back into the hospital for a face to face follow up appointment, or your consultant will call you to discuss the results, and will send you a detailed report.

There are three packages to choose from. They are:

Essential - GP Consultation, PSA blood test, physical examination, follow up postal report - £199

Specialist - Consultant Urologist Telephone consultation, PSA blood test, prostate MRI, follow up phone call with postal report - £595

Advanced - Face 2 Face consultation, PSA blood test, Urea & Electrolytes, eGFR, Physical examination, Urine flow rate and dipstick test, Prostate MRI with contrast, Follow up face 2 face consultation with postal report. - £1200

Fortunately, most men who undergo prostate cancer screening are not found to have a problem. If this is the case, we can advise you on how to minimise your risk of developing the disease in the future, and also what steps you should take (if any) for ongoing monitoring.

If your tests show a high risk of prostate cancer, it is likely you will need further investigations such as a prostate biopsy procedure. If this is the case, your consultant will advise you on next steps, and can also organise the tests for you.
