Personal Profile

Dr Ziaudeen Ansari is a highly experienced Consultant in Respiratory Medicine, Sleep Medicine, and General Internal Medicine with more than 25 years of clinical experience. He provides specialist care for patients with a wide range of breathing and sleep-related conditions.

He works within the NHS at Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust, including City Hospital, Sandwell Hospital, and the Midland Metropolitan University Hospital. He also offers private consultations through Circle Health Group.

He speaks both English and Tamil, helping him communicate clearly with a diverse patient population and deliver accessible, patient-centred care.

Dr Ansari has a specialist interest in sleep-related breathing disorders and complex sleep conditions. These include:

His leadership ensures patients receive coordinated, safe, and long-term management for complex respiratory and sleep conditions.

In addition to sleep medicine, Dr Ansari manages a wide range of lung and breathing conditions, including:

  • Breathlessness (including complex diagnostic cases)
  • Asthma
  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
  • Interstitial lung disease (ILD)
  • Bronchiectasis
  • Recurrent chest infections

He works closely with multidisciplinary teams to manage complex respiratory cases and ensure accurate diagnosis and treatment.

Dr Ansari plays an active role in lung cancer diagnosis and care. He works within specialist teams to support early investigation, accurate staging, and treatment planning for patients with suspected or confirmed lung cancer.

He is highly skilled in advanced respiratory procedures, including:

  • Bronchoscopy
  • Endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS)
  • Pleural aspiration
  • Chest drain insertion
  • Indwelling pleural catheter (IPC) placement

These procedures support accurate diagnosis and effective management of complex lung and pleural conditions.

Dr Ansari is a Royal College Tutor at Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust. He is actively involved in postgraduate medical education, appraisal, and clinical training.

He regularly teaches topics including non-invasive ventilation (NIV), bronchoscopy, pleural procedures, and sleep medicine.

Since 2019, Dr Ansari has also worked as a medico-legal expert witness in respiratory and sleep medicine. He prepares independent reports for personal injury and occupational lung disease cases.

He holds the Cardiff University Bond Solon Expert Witness Certificate and produces reports in line with Civil Procedure Rules, ensuring clear, objective, and evidence-based opinions.
