Mr Zaid Shalchi is a Consultant Ophthalmologist and Consultant Cataract Surgeon at the Prince Charles Eye Unit and Princess Margaret Hospital in Windsor. He was previously Honorary Consultant at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London. His subspecialty interests are medical retina, uveitis and cataract surgery.
Mr Shalchi graduated with double distinction from King’s College London School of Medicine. He completed residency at St Thomas’ and King’s College Hospitals before undertaking fellowship training in medical retina, uveitis and complex cataract surgery at Moorfields Eye Hospital. He is an examiner for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and the Retina tutor for the London Eye Course. He is a keen surgical teacher as part of the Skills Faculty of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists as well as training ophthalmologists at an international level at the European Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS) and the European Society for Retina Specialists (Euretina).
Mr Shalchi treats general and specialist ophthalmic conditions including medical retina, uveitis and cataract. His specialist interests include micro-incision cataract surgery with premium intraocular lenses (IOLs), age-related macular degeneration (AMD); retinal vein occlusion (RVO); diabetic retinopathy; central serous retinopathy (CSR); intravitreal injection treatment (IVT); uveitis; iritis; scleritis; episcleritis; intermediate and posterior uveitis; ocular inflammatory disease; genetic eye disease; retinitis pigmentosa; macular dystrophy; ocular oncology; choroidal naevi and choroidal melanoma.
