Mr Yashin Ramkissoon is a Senior Consultant Ophthalmologist specialising in Cataract and Vitreo-Retinal surgery. His NHS practice is based at The Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield.
Whilst his expertise lies in cataract and retinal surgery, he also offers care in all aspects of general ophthalmology.
Mr Ramkissoon graduated from the University of Cambridge MB PhD Programme in 1997 with a distinction in Medicine, and a PhD in Molecular Biology. He completed his Ophthalmology residency training at the world-renowned Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, where he also undertook Fellowship training in both Vitreo-Retinal Surgery (2007-2008) and Medical Retina (2008), before being appointed as a Consultant and Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer in Sheffield in 2009.
During his career, he has been awarded numerous prizes and scholarships including the Royal College of Ophthalmologists McCartney Prize.
He has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals and has co-authored book chapters on Cataract Surgery and Retinal Detachment. He is committed to teaching and training and is Educational Supervisor and College Tutor for Ophthalmology trainees in Sheffield and has been Undergraduate Teaching Lead at the University of Sheffield. In addition, he is a Microsurgical Skills Faculty Member of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, London and maintains an active role in clinical research relevant to vitreo-retinal surgery.
