Professor Wasim Hanif did specialist training from Birmingham with an MD from University of Birmingham. He has been a consultant Physician at University Hospital Birmingham in Diabetes & Endocrinology.
Prof. Hanif was appointed as a Hon Professor in Medicine in 2013. He holds several eminent positions in national bodies Exemplar: Trustee Diabetes UK, Member NICE HTA, MHRA, Chair Diabetes SAHF. He is a world recognised expert in his field advising UK Government, European Parliament and Commonwealth Ministers. Prof. Hanif is active is research having published widely and PI for several studies holding big research grants. He has been chair of the guideline development group of International Diabetes Federations and several other bodies.
Prof. Hanif received his specialist training in Birmingham and has worked at major teaching centres in the city. He received an MD for research in South Asians with diabetes from the University of Birmingham. He has been involved with major research projects in diabetes and has published widely. He was selected for Kings Fund Leadership Programme in Diabetes. His research interest includes: diabetic kidney disease, diabetes prevention, management of diabetes in Ramadan, obesity, ethnicity and tackling health inequalities.
He is involved as a chief and principal investigator in several international multi-centre trials and was instrumental in setting up UKADS (United Kingdom Asian Diabetes Study).
Prof. Hanif has authored several publications, toolkits and guides in ethnic health. In 2009, he produced and authored a report on the gaps in research among South Asians with Diabetes in the UK that was launched at the Houses of Parliament on the 17th June 09 by Lord Naren Patel and Right Hon Keith Vaz MP.
