Dr Vikramjit Mitra is a Consultant Gastroenterologist at Woodlands Hospital in Darlington.
He has been a Consultant Gastroenterologist since March of 2014. He also practices at the University Hospital of North Tees, with a specialist interest in Pancreatico-biliary (PB) Medicine and Advanced Endoscopy (EUS, ERCP, EMR and enteral stenting).
He completed his gastroenterology training in the Northern Deanery, followed by a fellowship in PB Medicine at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle. He has also been involved in the development of HPB services in Teesside.

He is a core member of the Northern School of Endoscopy and has been a faculty in JAG approved training courses. He is the course director of JAG Basic Skills ERCP and EUS courses at North Tees Hospital. In 2018, he joined as a member of the Pancreas Section of the British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG) and currently chairs the Pancreas Clinical Section in the BSG (2025-2027). He was also the ex-chair of Pancreas Clinical Research Group of the BSG (2019-2025). Additionally, Dr Mitra is a Visiting Professor at the School of Medical Sciences, located at Sunderland University, and a Medical Assessor for Joint Advisory Group (JAG).
He has been the co-chair of the HPB endoscopy sub-group (part of the North East & North Cumbria network) since 2021. He is active clinical researcher and has multiple publications in peer-reviewed journals in gastroenterology.
