Mr Vijay Korwar is a Consultant Upper Gastrointestinal (GI) Surgeon at Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust, where he has worked since 2020.

He specialises in upper gastrointestinal surgery, with expertise in treating conditions affecting the oesophagus, stomach, and related digestive organs. He also has specialist experience in bariatric (weight loss) surgery and complex abdominal procedures.

Mr Korwar completed registrar-level surgical training in the UK, gaining broad experience across multiple areas of general surgery. His training included:

  • Breast surgery
  • Colorectal surgery
  • Vascular surgery
  • Endocrine surgery
  • Trauma surgery
  • Transplant surgery

He then undertook further specialist training in:

  • Hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust
  • Upper GI surgery at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust
  • Bariatric surgery at North Bristol NHS Trust

This advanced training has given him extensive experience in managing complex upper GI conditions and providing specialist surgical care.

Mr Korwar was first appointed as a Consultant Upper GI Surgeon at Southmead Hospital in 2017.

He later worked as a Consultant Upper GI Surgeon at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust before joining Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust.

Alongside his clinical work, Mr Korwar is actively involved in surgical education and training. He supports the development of future surgeons as a trainer for specialist surgical trainees.

He also regularly teaches on courses organised by the Royal College of Surgeons of England, sharing his knowledge and experience with the next generation of surgeons.
