About Vanessa Hodgkinson

Personal Profile

Having been a consultant in pain management for 20 years in Nottingham, Dr Vanessa Hodgkinson has a wealth of experience dealing with the complex health needs of patients with chronic, difficult to treat pain conditions.

She is an NHS consultant at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust and has worked in the private sector for over 15 years. She is actively involved in the management of back pain and sciatica, neuropathic pain musculoskeletal conditions, pelvic pain and headache amongst many others. Dr Hodgkinson also regularly performs treatment for the relief of migraines and headaches.

She believes in a holistic  biopsychosocial approach to management with an emphasis on diagnosis and explaining pain in a way that patients can understand which way best to be treated but also to help themselves.

Active as an interventionalist throughout her career she has expertise in many procedures both from a diagnostic and therapeutic perspective. Familiarity with spinal interventions, epidurals, nerve root treatments and the use of radiofrequency denervation on the spinal facet joints to mention a few.

She is a member of the Neuromodulation team at NUH part of which encompasses spinal cord stimulation. She has an active interest on genito-pelvic pain and its diagnosis.
