About Dr Umesh Basavaraju

Personal Profile

Dr Basavaraju has worked as a Consultant Gastroenterologist with NHS Grampian since 2015. He completed his specialist training before taking up this role. He also holds a PhD from the University of Aberdeen, awarded in 2012, where his research focused on inflammation, diet, and colorectal neoplasia.

Dr Basavaraju is committed to providing high-quality, patient-centred care. He aims to deliver accurate diagnosis and effective treatment using the latest endoscopic techniques.

Areas of expertise

Dr Basavaraju specialises in diagnosing and treating a wide range of digestive conditions, including: 

  • Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)
  • Ulcerative colitis
  • Crohn’s disease

He is highly experienced in advanced endoscopic procedures for Bowel cancer screening, Polypectomy (removal of bowel polyps) and Endoscopic ultrasound

Dr Basavaraju also completed a fellowship in advanced endoscopy. This has given him extensive experience in the endoscopic management of colonic polyps, gall stone disease, bile duct and pancreatic conditions.
