About Mr Tom Leslie

Personal Profile

Mr Leslie is a Consultant Urological Surgeon in Oxford and Milton Keynes. His main clinical areas of interest are robotic prostatectomy, diagnosis of prostate cancer including targeted and template biopsies, minimally invasive treatments for prostate cancer such as HIFU and brachytherapy, general urology, and vasectomy.

Tom completed his undergraduate and basic surgical training at the Bristol Royal Infirmary. He moved to Oxford in 2004 and completed a D.Phil in Surgery at the University of Oxford. He was then appointed as a Clinical Lecturer in Urology in the Nuffield Department of Surgical Sciences, University of Oxford; in this post he combined research with specialist registrar training in Urology in the Oxford Deanery.

For the final two years of his training, he trained as a robotic surgeon under the mentorship of Prof Freddie Hamdy at the Churchill Hospital, Oxford. In 2013, he was appointed to his current post as a Consultant Urological Surgeon in Oxford and Milton Keynes.

Outside of his clinical commitments Mr Leslie also dedicates his time to supporting education and charity. He is Training Programme Director for Urology trainees in the Thames Valley as well as being trustee of UCARE, an Oxfordshire based urology cancer charity and Patron of the Milton Keynes Prostate Cancer Support Group.

He is married with two children. Outside work, he is a mad keen sports fan and watches (or plays!) cricket, rugby and golf when family life allows.

Research interests:

Mr Leslie is Principle Investigator for the PART trial. A NIHR funded multicentre randomised clinical trial looking at surgery versus focal therapy for intermediate risk prostate cancer.

He is Sub Theme Leader, Surgical Innovation and Technology Theme, NIHR Biomedical Research Centre, Oxford and runs a research programme looking at ablative technologies as part of the NIHR BRC in Oxford.

Other interests:

Mr Leslie is a Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer in the Nuffield Department of Surgical Science, University of Oxford and delivers undergraduate teaching in surgery and urology to clinical medical students and is the lead tutor for the “Surgical Technology and Robotics” module of the MSc in Surgical Science and Practice.
