Part of his early Orthopaedic experience was gained at Exeter, where he developed his interest in hip surgery and research at this world leading centre for hip replacement. His Orthopaedic Registrar training was in the Wessex region, during which time he also completed an AO Trauma fellowship in Denver, Colorado, and a year’s arthroplasty fellowship in Auckland, New Zealand. It was in Auckland where he gained experience in computer navigated and patient specific knee replacement surgery.
He achieved his certificate of completion of specialist training in September 2012 and spent the following year furthering his specialist experience in joint replacement surgery, principally as a fellow at North Hampshire Hospital in Basingstoke, but also held an honorary fellowship at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford where he gained experience in complex revision hip and knee surgery and lower limb reconstruction following tumour excision. After a period as a locum in the Trust, Mr Briant-Evans was appointed as a substantive Trauma and Orthopaedic Consultant at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in April 2014, with his NHS work being split between Basingstoke and Winchester.
He has an interest in hip and knee research and has published and presented internationally in these areas. His particular area of expertise has been investigating and revising metal-on-metal hip replacements. He is the Joint Replacement Rapid Recovery Lead Clinician both at North Hampshire Hospital and at The Hampshire Clinic. He continues to teach locally and as a faculty member on courses at Southampton University and the Royal Society of Medicine in London.
