Personal Profile

Mr Timothy Clough is an Orthopaedic Surgeon who specialises exclusively in foot and ankle surgery, sports injuries and trauma.

He qualified from The University of St Andrews, Scotland and Manchester and is an NHS Consultant at Wrightington Hospital, where he sees both GP referrals and complex tertiary referrals from other surgeons from all over the North of England.

Mr Clough gained extensive training in these areas through an International Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine Fellowship in Canada. During his training, he won both the British Orthopaedic Association (BOA) 'Sanofi-Synthelabo' prize and the British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (BOFAS) Travelling Fellowship prize.

He consults for several professional Premiership and Championship league football clubs, Super League rugby teams and a range of other elite professional sports organisations.

He has a particular interest in sporting ankle injuries, ankle arthroscopy, ankle and big toe joint replacement surgery and bunion surgery. He is regularly invited as Faculty to national and international meetings, has been invited onto the International Faculty evaluating ankle joint replacement design, is a Specialist Advisor to NICE for the Interventional Procedures Programme and is Deputy Editor of ‘The Foot’ journal.

Mr Clough has published articles on ankle and big toe joint replacements, day case forefoot surgery and the role of PRP in plantar fasciitis. He is a keen teacher, Clinical Supervisor and trainer to the Wrightington Fellow on the BOA Orthopaedic Leadership programme, an elected member of the Outcomes Committee of the British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society, on the International Advisory Board of the peer-reviewed journal, Deputy Editor of the journal ‘The Foot’, and has sat as External Examiner for the School of Medicine BMSc programme at The University of Dundee.
