He graduated from King Edward Medical College in 1987 with academic distinction award and Gold Medal, completed Basic Ophthalmic Training in Glasgow and Essex between 1989 and 1992 and was awarded Fellowship of Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and Royal College of Ophthalmologists, London in 1992. He completed Higher Ophthalmic Specialist Training in Glasgow and Birmingham from 1993 to 1999.
He is a high volume cataract surgeon offering a full range of refractive surgery options, experienced in various intraocular lenses including multifocal (for distance and reading vision without glasses), toric (to correct astigmatism) and Phakic Implants (Intraocular ‘contact’ lens). In addition to having wide experience in glaucoma, lid and squint surgery, Dr Saboor is a medical retina specialist with expertise in macular degeneration and diabetic eye disease.
is Clinical lead for macular services and Clinical Laser Expert for Forth Valley NHS. Dr Saboor has been keenly involved in teaching and training of doctors and nurses, organising training courses in Phacoemulsification and lecturing both nationally and internationally. He is a member of European Society of Cataract and Refractive surgeons, European Society of Retina Specialists and Scottish Ophthalmological Club. Dr Saboor has been a College tutor for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, London from 2003 to 2013 and Educational and Clinical Supervisor for trainee doctors since 2000.
He sits on the CPD (Continuous Professional Development) committee of Royal College of Ophthalmologists, London. He is also an examiner for the fellowship examination of Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, an Expert Adviser to Scottish Medicines Consortium and sits on consultant appointment committees as Adviser for Academy of Medical Royal Colleges and Faculties in Scotland.
