Dr Howitt is a dedicated and highly skilled GP who graduated from Newcastle Medical School in 2008. She has developed expertise across a wide range of specialities during her postgraduate training in Newcastle, London and New Zealand, prior to settling with her family in Lancaster.
With over 10 years of GP experience, Dr Howitt is passionate about providing comprehensive and patient-centred care. Her warm and empathetic manner helps patients to feel at ease and allows treatment to be tailored to their individual needs.
Alongside her work at Circle Health Group, Dr Howitt is a GP at a local NHS practice which has provided her with an in-depth knowledge of services within the Lancaster area. She is committed to keeping up to date with clinical guidelines and evidence-based medicine which ensures her patients receive the best possible management.
Dr Howitt has previously undertaken a role as a GP for adults with learning disabilities and mental health problems in a regional inpatient unit. This enabled her to develop enhanced skills in holistic patient assessment, advocacy and co-ordinating care within multidisciplinary teams.
Her clinical interests include dermatology, elderly care, mental health, women's health, preventative medicine and learning disabilities. She also has a keen interest in global health and has volunteered in rural clinics in Liberia and published research on stroke outcomes in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Dr Howitt has obtained a postgraduate Diploma of the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and an accreditation in Minor Surgery Skills from the Royal College of General Practitioners.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Howitt seeks to have a healthy work-life balance through an active lifestyle that includes walking in the Lancashire countryside, Pilates and paddleboarding. She also enjoys trips to the theatre and having adventures with her young family.
