About Suzanne Curtis

Personal Profile

Suzanne has specialised in hand therapy for the past 20 years, dividing her work between Woodlands Hospital in Darlington and James Cook University Hospital.

This has provided her with a wealth of experience in the management of traumatic, acquired and elective (planned surgery) hand conditions. Suzanne has always been active in her professional development including completion of Level 1, 2 and 3 British Association Hand Therapist modules. More recently, she completed a post-graduate certificate in Upper Limb Rehabilitation. She is currently working towards accredited 'Hand Therapist' status. Suzanne also teaches on the therapy degree programme at Teesside University.

Suzanne has experience in treating complex conditions of the upper limb and is an experienced splint fabricator. She works closely with hand consultants to ensure that the best level of post-operative/injury rehabilitation is completed. She also ensures the best clinical guidelines and evidence are put into practice.

She takes great pride in achieving good results. Patients will often say how much they take their hand for granted until its injured or has undergone surgery. A hand condition of any type can affect a person's ability in everyday activities whether it be returning to work, making a meal or playing sport. Not to mention the psychological impact of not being able to do these things. To make a difference to someone's life and go some way to help restore their abilities in all areas is crucial in her work.
