About Mr Stuart Grant

Personal Profile

Mr Grant is a Consultant Cardiac and Aortic Surgeon at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust and the Alexandra Hospital. He undertook clinical training in cardiothoracic surgery across the North West of England. He was awarded the prestigious SCTS travelling fellowship and completed a post-CCT fellowship in advanced aortic surgery and TAVI at Toronto General Hospital.

Mr Grant’s main areas of clinical interest include complex aortic surgery, aortic dissection surgery, aortic valve replacement, trans catheter aortic valve implantation, coronary artery bypass surgery and complex thoracic endovascular aortic surgery. He also has expertise in the management of cardiothoracic trauma patients. Mr Grant was appointed as the clinical lead for Cardiac Surgery at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust in 2025.

Mr Grant completed his PhD at the University of Manchester in 2013 on clinical prediction models in cardiovascular surgery. Mr Grant's research focus is on using big data and advanced analyses to improve outcomes for patients. He has published widely on clinical risk prediction models, clinical outcome analyses, cardiopulmonary exercise testing and using large clinical registries. He regularly peer-reviews articles for high-impact clinical journals. He is a member of the EACTS Research Taskforce, clinical lead for the Greater Manchester Health Informatics Collaborative and previously sat on the UK National Adult Cardiac Surgery Research Board. He is currently the UK Aortic Society co-research lead and is regularly invited to deliver international presentations.

Mr Grant has published widely on a broad range of clinical topics including cardiac surgery, vascular surgery and thoracic surgery. He has published widely on National and multi-centre datasets in these areas. To date he has contributed to over 100 publications including over 80 peer reviewed articles.

Mr Grant is an honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Manchester. He has been involved in both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. Mr Grant has been a member of faculty on a number of surgical skills courses. He is a keen surgical trainer and also supervises post-graduate MD and PhD research students.
