About Dr Stephen Gardner

Personal Profile

Dr Gardner originally qualified in Wales in 1991 and became a Member of the Royal College of Physicians in 1996.  He did research in Diabetes in London and Bristol gaining a Doctorate in Medicine in 2001.  He completed his specialist training on the Oxford rotation and was added to the GMC Specialist Register for Diabetes & Endocrinology and General internal Medicine in 2003.  He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in 2006.

He was appointed as a consultant at Stoke Mandeville Hospital in 2003 developing the Endocrinology Service, Diabetic Foot service and Insulin pumps.  He started private medical practice at this time.

He has held a number of managerial positions including Head of Department for Diabetes & Endocrinology, Lead for Acute Medicine, Chair of the Division of Medicine and is now Deputy Chief Medical Officer.

Clinical Interests

Diabetes – types 1, 2 and rarer causes. 

Endocrinology including but not limited to thyroid, adrenal, parathyroid and pituitary disease.
