Mr Radley is a Consultant Gynaecologist at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and Honorary Professor at The University of Sheffield.
He is the Clinical Lead and Training Programme Director for the Urogynaecology Unit in Sheffield, as well as being the Director of Research for the Jessop Wing. His medical education was at Queens’ College, Cambridge and King's College Hospital, London where he graduated in 1987.
His training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology began in Sheffield in 1989, since which time he has also spent 2 years in Reconstructive Urology. He became a Consultant in 2000 and obtained his MD with the University of Sheffield in 2005.
Mr Radley specialises in urogynaecology, female urology and pelvic floor disorders, including medical and surgical treatments for prolapse, incontinence and bladder, bowel, vaginal and sexual dysfunction. He works closely with other specialists in related fields of Gynaecology, Urology, Colorectal Surgery, Physiotherapy and Medical Imaging. Through these links, he provides a genuinely multi-disciplinary approach, catering for a broad range of conditions.
The majority of surgeries that Mr Radley undertakes are performed without the need for a large incision or cut in the abdomen. This includes vaginal approaches to incontinence and prolapse, minimal access, laparoscopic, cystoscopic and hysteroscopic techniques. Most surgeries are therefore undertaken on a short stay, overnight or day-case basis.
He regularly provides training for other surgeons in female urology, gynaecology and pelvic floor reconstruction, locally, nationally and internationally. He has co-authored numerous research publications relating to surgical techniques, developments and outcomes.
He provides surgical lectures and presentations at local, national and international meetings, as well as to GPs and medical students at the University of Sheffield, where he was made an Honorary Professor in 2018.
Mr Radley was responsible for the design, development, testing and implementation of ePAQ (electronic Personal Assessment Questionnaire). This web-based system is now widely used for the assessment of patients’ conditions, their quality of life and outcome in gynaecology, as well other areas of healthcare. Watch him discussing the benefits of using the ePAQ system in this video.

Stephen has pioneered web-based assessment and telephone consultation in gynaecology, as well as in other areas of healthcare. He has undertaken research into this approach, including patient experience and benefits, communication and access; both for new patients and follow-up care.
