Mr Sriskandarasa Senthilkumaran (known as Senthil) is a locally trained orthopaedic surgeon with a special interest in foot and ankle surgery. He also treats a wide range of general adult orthopaedic trauma cases.
He performs all types of foot and ankle procedures, including deformity correction, arthritis surgery, and sports injury treatment. Whenever possible, he uses minimally invasive (keyhole) techniques to help patients recover faster and with less discomfort. These include bunion correction, toe surgery, and procedures on the Achilles tendon and plantar fascia. Senthil is passionate about developing new surgical techniques and strongly supports early movement and rehabilitation after surgery or injury.
Senthil moved to Aberdeen in 2003 to study medicine at the University of Aberdeen, graduating in 2009 with degree in Medicine (MBChB) and Medical Science (BMedSci). He completed his junior doctor training at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and Dr Gray’s Hospital, during which he also earned a Master’s degree in Surgical Sciences from the University of Edinburgh. His orthopaedic training took place across Aberdeen and Inverness, learning from senior surgeons who are now his colleagues.
In 2020, he became a registered specialist in trauma and orthopaedics. To further refine his skills, Senthil completed two advanced fellowships in foot and ankle surgery - one in Glasgow under Mr C Senthil Kumar, where he gained experience in ankle replacements, and another in Melbourne, Australia, under Mr Harvinder Bedi, focusing on minimally invasive techniques.
Senthil returned to Aberdeen in 2021 to begin his consultant career. His elective practice is based at Woodend General Hospital, while his trauma work is at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. He treats a wide range of injuries, including complex foot and ankle trauma, and is part of the local diabetic foot team.
He is also a dedicated educator, training junior doctors and orthopaedic trainees, and mentoring medical students at the University of Aberdeen. He regularly teaches registrars and allied health professionals and is known for his enthusiasm for teaching.
Outside of work, Senthil enjoys hiking with his wife and two sons, exploring Scotland’s beautiful Munros and lochs. He’s also a keen DIY enthusiast and gardener. Originally from Sri Lanka, he’s a passionate cricket fan and enjoys playing the sport in his spare time.
