About Mr Simon Bott

Personal Profile

Having qualified in 1994 from St Bartholomew’s and the Royal London Hospitals, Simon Bott underwent six years of ‘basic’ surgical training in and around London. He subsequently went into a period of research into prostate cancer at the Institute of Urology, University College London. Simon was awarded an MD from the University of London for his thesis and published over 40 peer-reviewed papers. He also presented his work at national and international meeting and wrote and edited a number of books.

Simon started speciality training in Urology in 2003, based at St George’s hospital, spending five years in centres in the south of England gaining expertise in general urology and also developing a particular interest in prostate cancer, laser prostate surgery and stone disease. Along with colleagues, Simon was the first to describe template prostate biopsies to assist in the diagnosis of prostate cancer. He continues to research ways of improving prostate cancer diagnosis, including fusion guided targeted biopsies. Simon has also developed strategies for safe active surveillance for men with low risk prostate cancer, such that over 95% of men remain on surveillance for up to 7 years.

Simon is currently a Consultant Urologist at Frimley Park Hospital in Surrey. His surgical interests include minimally invasive treatment of prostate cancer and he continues to research ways of improving prostate cancer diagnosis, including fusion guided targeted biopsies. He has performed over 100 template biopsy procedures in the past year and is also involved with the early trials in prostate cancer focal therapy.
