About Siddek Isreb
Personal Profile
Mr Siddek Isreb is a Consultant Upper Gastrointestinal (GI) Surgeon at Woodlands Hospital in Darlington. He welcomes NHS, privately insured and self-pay patients.
He also works at North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Trust, where he has a special interest in general surgery within childhood. Please note: Mr Isreb does not treat patients under the age of 18 at Woodlands Hospital.
Training
Mr Isreb finished his surgical training at 'NHS England Education North East' and gained a 'Certificate of Completion of Training' (CCT) in October 2021. Following his CCT of a 'Robotic/Bariatric' Fellowship in Reading, Mr Isreb was appointed to his permanent North Tees Consultant post in September 2022.
He trained and has speciality registration in two countries, and his NHS practice includes a wide variety of open, endoscopic and laparoscopic (keyhole) procedures for both adults and children.
Research
Mr Isreb has completed a large design-based research project in order to create an online training course. This is designed to teach surgeons how to safely remove the gallbladder in keyhole surgery. He has also focused on other aspects of training and patient safety in theatre. He completed his PhD degree successfully in 2017 and also has multiple publications in high-impact journals. These include a leading article in the British Journal of Surgery (BJS). His research gained first place at the 'Bright Idea Awards' in 2011.
Teaching and education
Along with his clinical experience, Mr Isreb has acquired vast experience in education throughout his career. This includes:
- Supervising undergraduate and post-graduate students
- Completing a diploma and PhD in 'Medical Education' (surgical skills assessment and training)
Mr Isreb is also a member of the 'Newcastle University Medical School Assessment', with an 'Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer' status at Newcastle University. He is also 'Basic Surgical Skills Trainer' at The Royal College of Surgeons of London, a 'Member of Faculty' of the surgical trainers at The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and a Fellow of the 'Higher Education Academy'.
