Miss Shivani Kasbekar is a Consultant Ophthalmologist at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. A foundation of rigorous surgical training and research
Miss Kasbekar’s clinical practice is rooted in rigorous surgical training and a background of research and academic achievements. This translates into safe, evidence-based care. She completed a fellowship in adult ocular motility at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford and paediatric ophthalmology at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. Prior to this, she undertook advanced subspecialty training in complex squint surgery at Leicester Royal Infirmary, a recognised national centre for nystagmus.

Her academic foundation includes graduating with Honours in the top tier of her class from the University of Birmingham, alongside a Master of Science with Distinction. She also holds a Doctorate in Medicine (MD) in Eye and Vision Sciences achieved through a highly commended grant award from the Medical Research Council and the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (University of Liverpool). Miss Kasbekar has published research in lead-ing scientific journals, including the American Journal of Ophthalmology and the Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. Her achievements include best presentation awards from the University of Birmingham, the Roy Mapstone Prize at the University of Liverpool, and the UK/European Society of Biomaterials.

Squint and eye movement disorders
Miss Kasbekar treats a full spectrum of adult eye movement disorders, including squints and double vision. Her surgical expertise includes revision squint procedures, vertical muscle surgery, adjustable suture and small incision techniques. She also offers non-surgical treatment options, including botulinum toxin (Botox) injections for squint correction.
 
 
Adult Squints through Dual Expertise
Miss Kasbekar’s adult strabismus practice is built on the foundations of children’s eye care. She holds fellowship training in both paediatric ophthalmology and adult ocular motility. Many adults develop a squint that began in childhood or returned after earlier surgery. This dual expertise gives her the unique insight needed to offer the most effective, tailored treatments
 
Cataract Surgery
Miss Kasbekar provides expert cataract surgery for all age groups, from infants to adults. Her dedication to safe and quality care is reflected in her personal clinical outcomes. 
 
Leadership and Teaching Roles
Dedicated to high standards in eye care, Miss Kasbekar actively trains future generations of eye surgeons as a clinical supervisor. She serves as a faculty member and instructor for a squint surgery course. As an official Trust Appraiser, she regularly peer-reviews fellow consultants to maintain clinical excellence. She has also led several successful quality im-provement initiatives. During her previous consultant position, Miss Kasbekar re-established adult strabismus care pathways across Coventry and Warwickshire to improve patient safety and ensure timely treatment.
