About Sherif Elhadary

Personal Profile

Dr Elhadary is a Consultant Respiratory Physician with extensive experience in respiratory medicine and general internal medicine. He has developed a broad range of clinical expertise throughout his career, with a particular interest in the assessment and management of complex respiratory conditions and interstitial lung disease (ILD). He is committed to providing high-quality, evidence-based, and patient-centred care, with a strong emphasis on accurate diagnosis, clear communication, and personalized treatment.

Dr Elhadary graduated with an MBBCh degree in 2009 and subsequently undertook extensive postgraduate training in respiratory and general internal medicine. He completed an MSc in Respiratory Medicine in 2016, undertaking research focused on chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). His postgraduate education has provided him with a strong understanding of both the clinical and scientific aspects of respiratory disease and has supported his continued interest in delivering evidence-based care.

As a Consultant Respiratory Physician, Dr Elhadary provides comprehensive assessment, investigation, and treatment for a wide range of respiratory symptoms and conditions. These include asthma, COPD, chronic cough, recurrent chest infections, unexplained or persistent breathlessness, sleep-related breathing disorders, lung cancer, pulmonary fibrosis, and other complex respiratory disorders. He has a particular specialist interest in interstitial lung disease, an area that often requires detailed clinical assessment, appropriate investigations, multidisciplinary input, and careful long-term follow-up.

Dr Elhadary recognises that respiratory symptoms can have a significant impact on patients' quality of life and may sometimes be difficult to diagnose or manage. His approach involves taking a detailed clinical history, undertaking a thorough assessment, and arranging appropriate investigations to establish an accurate diagnosis. He places importance on explaining diagnoses and treatment options clearly to patients, enabling them to understand their condition and participate fully in decisions regarding their care.

He is also experienced in a range of advanced respiratory diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. His procedural expertise includes bronchoscopy, endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS), and pleural procedures. These skills enable him to contribute to the investigation and management of patients with a wide range of respiratory presentations, including suspected malignancy, unexplained lung abnormalities, and pleural disease.

In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Dr Elhadary has maintained a strong interest in medical education and healthcare quality improvement. He completed a Diploma in Health Profession Education and a Diploma in Total Quality Management in 2013. These qualifications reflect his broader commitment to professional development, clinical governance, education, and the continuous improvement of healthcare services. His interest in education has also contributed to his ability to communicate complex medical information in a clear and accessible manner.

Dr Elhadary obtained Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians (MRCP) in 2020 and successfully completed the Respiratory Specialty Certificate Examination in 2023. In 2024, he was awarded a Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) in Respiratory Medicine, recognizing his specialist training and experience in the field.

He currently practices as a Consultant Respiratory Physician at Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, where he manages patients with a broad spectrum of respiratory conditions. His NHS consultant practice provides him with ongoing experience in the assessment and management of both common and complex respiratory presentations.

Through his private practice, Dr Elhadary offers specialist respiratory assessment and advice to patients seeking a comprehensive evaluation of respiratory symptoms or an expert opinion regarding an established diagnosis. He aims to provide a thorough and personalised consultation, combining his specialist clinical knowledge with a compassionate and patient-focused approach. His breadth of experience across respiratory medicine, his specialist interest in interstitial lung disease, and his expertise in advanced respiratory procedures enable him to provide comprehensive care tailored to the individual needs of each patient.
