About Dr Shamil Yusuf

Personal Profile

Dr Shamil Yusuf completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Manchester before moving to Kings College Hospital, London for his post-graduate training. Following admission to the Royal College of Physicians he was awarded a British Heart Foundation Research Fellowship and moved to St Georges Hospital Medical School, London, to research the various triggers and substrates responsible for atrial fibrillation, one of the most common heart rhythm disturbances encountered in clinical practice

After being awarded his PhD, Dr. Yusuf trained in general cardiology on the South Thames, Kent, Surrey, Sussex specialist registrar rotation with appointments at St Thomas and Kings College Hospitals before moving to Glenfield Hospital in 2008. Here he specialised in cardiac electrophysiology using fluoroscopic and 3D geometry guided catheter ablation. These techniques are used to treat various heart rhythm disturbances including atrial fibrilation and implantation of simple pacemakers for slow heart rhythm disturbances and complex pacing devices for heart failure.

In his spare time Dr Yusuf enjoys playing sports and watching football. He is also a keen traveller.
