Dr Shamali Hoque is an experienced Consultant Dermatologist of over 16 years. She specialises in Skin Cancer, Medical and Inflammatory skin conditions including Acne, Psoriasis, Eczema and Paediatric Dermatology. She performs skin surgery as well as Botox for Hyperhidrosis.
Dr Hoque was the Clinical Lead for Dermatology at Lewisham NHS Trust for four years and prior to that, Skin Cancer Lead for ten years. She is currently the Research Lead for Dermatology and Lead for the British Association of Dermatologists Biologics Interventions Register at Lewisham NHS Trust. She is a Clinical Supervisor to Dermatology trainees and was previously Educational Supervisor to trainees for over ten years.
She is part of the Community Dermatology Multidisciplinary team at Lewisham NHS Trust and was a key member of the ‘Skin Matters’ Working group that optimised referral pathways for Dermatology patients. She is actively involved in teaching trainees and medical students and delivers regular educational meetings for GPs. She performs national and local Audits and has peer-reviewed publications in her areas of interest in Dermatology.
She was a Council member for the Dermatology Section of The Royal Society of Medicine for three years. She was also the South London Representative for the British Association of Dermatologists for four years.
Training
Dr Hoque graduated in Pharmacology with First Class Honours from University College London prior to studying medicine. She received her MBBS from Barts and The Royal London Hospital Medical College with a distinction in Medical Ethics. She completed Specialist Dermatology training at St George's Hospital and St John's Institute of Dermatology which also included training in Genitourinary/HIV medicine.
Appointment as Consultant
Dr Hoque was awarded her CCST in 2006. She was appointed as a Dermatology Consultant at Lewisham NHS Trust in 2007.
Consultations
Dr Hoque aims to provide a dedicated, patient-centred, holistic approach to delivering a high standard of care. The burden of skin diseases on patients is often underestimated and her aim is to achieve the best treatment outcomes for her patients. This involves looking into the causes of the skin condition, trigger factors and using the most up to date, safe and effective treatments that are available.
