About Selina Tomlinson

Personal Profile

Mrs Tomlinson graduated in Medicine and Surgery from University of Bristol and completed further training in London and the SouthWest in Ophthalmic Surgery. She holds a BSc degree in Physiological Sciences and a Masters in Genomic Medicine.  She completed her ophthalmic surgical training within the prestigious and highly competitive Severn rotation in the Bristol Eye Hospital. She has completed internationally recognised fellowships in Adult Ocular Motility and Oculoplastic Surgery. She has over a decade of experience in cataract surgery and uses the latest lens technology to optimise patient outcomes.

Throughout her career she has been awarded numerous prizes for research particularly in refractive surgery and quality improvement. She has been invited to present at multiple international and national conferences and is now focusing on training the next generation of ophthalmologists.

Clinical interests -

Mrs Tomlinson specialises in adult cataract surgery with premium lenses and adult ocular motility. She is a highly experienced cataract surgeon with a focus on vision optimisation and patient safety. In that vein her complication rate in cataract surgery using the metric audited nationally: posterior capsule rupture rate is <0.3% (n= 968, average 550 cataracts per annum completed), national average 1-1.6% (for consultant level surgeon).

She also leads the adult ocular motility service at the Royal United Hospital and completes an average of between 150-200 squint operations per year which is the highest number in the region (Bristol/Bath/Cheltenham region). Her alignment outcomes are exemplary and above the national average reported, with further surgery within 1 year at <2%.

Within her general ophthalmology practice she consults and provides treatment for patients with a variety of conditions including dry eye disease, eyelid lumps, retinal examination checks, allergic eye disease.
