Mr Sayed Sarwary is a Consultant General Surgeon with extensive expertise in gastrointestinal and laparoscopic surgery. He provides the Complex Abdominal Wall Reconstruction Service at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust (BHRUT), and also provides specialist care in paediatric surgery, offering general surgical services for children.
In addition to his clinical work, Mr Sarwary is the Governance Lead for Quality and Safety in the General Surgery Department at BHRUT, where he plays a key role in maintaining high standards of patient care, clinical effectiveness, and safety.
He is also actively involved in surgical education and training, regularly delivering surgical skills courses at St Mary’s Education Centre, helping to develop the next generation of surgeons through hands-on teaching and mentorship.

Mr Sarwary graduated from the Medical School of Hannover, Germany, in 1998. He trained and worked as a Consultant Visceral Surgeon at Klinikum Hildesheim, a leading surgical oncology centre in Lower Saxony, where he gained extensive experience in managing complex cases involving bowel, pancreaticobiliary, thyroid, and lung cancers.
In 2011, Mr Sarwary relocated to the UK, where his qualifications were recognised by the Royal College of Surgeons and he was awarded the FRCS. He has since worked in several prominent hospitals across England and Scotland, further developing his expertise in general and laparoscopic surgery.
Appointed as a Consultant Surgeon at BHRUT in 2020, Mr Sarwary is known for his patient-centred approach, surgical precision, and commitment to ethical practice. He is also a passionate educator and mentor, dedicated to advancing surgical standards through teaching and leadership.
