He trained in the UK and is on the Specialist Register for General Surgery. He specialises in comprehensive surgical care, both elective and emergency. His practice consists of both simple, open procedures and more complex surgical day-cases and inpatient operations. Mr Bhattacharya's special interest is in minimally invasive (laparoscopic) surgery, which allows for smaller incisions, less pain and quicker post-operative recovery.
Mr Bhattacharya qualified from Burdwan Medical College, India in 1999 and completed his surgical training in the UK (NHS) from 2003 - 2016. He passed FRCS with the Royal College of Surgeons in 2015. He has been on the GMC’s Specialist Register for General Surgery since 2017. Mr Bhattacharya is a GMC-recognised trainer for surgical trainee doctors in the NHS and JAG-accredited Upper GI Endoscopist and Endoscopy Trainer. Additionally, he has parallel qualifications in Cancer Research (MD) and Undergraduate Medical Education (Post Graduate Award) with Warwick University, Medical Law (Post Graduate Certificate) with De Montfort University and obtained Pearson's BTEC Level 7 Certificates in Investigative Law, Evidence, Report Writing and Courtroom skills after completion of training in relevant areas with Bond Solon.
