About Dr Saravana Kanakarajan

Personal Profile

Dr Kanakarajan qualified in 1993 and began his early postgraduate training in Anaesthesia in Mumbai, India. A move to UK enabled him complete his specialist training in Anaesthesia in Birmingham School of Anaesthesia, West Midlands. A fellowship at Walton Centre for Neurology & Neurosurgery, Liverpool, provided the advanced training in Pain Medicine.

Dr Kanakarajan is a Consultant Anaesthetist with special interest in Pain Medicine based at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, Aberdeen. He is also Honorary Lecturer at University of Aberdeen and collaborates with Aberdeen Pain Research Collaboration. Majority of his clinical commitments is in Pain Medicine. His clinical interests include spinal pain and neuropathic pain. He promotes the precision diagnostics in Pain Medicine and provides input to 3 different multidisciplinary team meetings.  Since his appointment as consultant, he has lead the Interventional Pain Medicine in Aberdeen and provides variety of treatments including radiofrequency denervation of facet joints, cooled radiofrequency, nucleoplasty, epidurals for back and neck pain, and spinal cord stimulation.
