About Mr Sarath Nalagatla

Personal Profile

Mr Sarath Nalagatla currently works as a Consultant Endo-Urological Surgeon at University Hospital Monklands and University Hospital Hairmyres. His specialist interests are in endourology and stone disease, and he is the Lead Clinician for both these areas. He also provides flexible ureterorenoscopy and laser stone fragmentation as well as ESWL for renal stones.

Mr Nalagatla is part of the only urology unit in Scotland training urology speciality trainees in performing their own percutaneous access during Supine Mini PCNL (Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy).

He has completed a Ureteroscopy and Percutaneous Renal Access Mini-Fellowship (Prof Ralph Clayman & Prof Elspeth McDougall) at University of California Irvine, Medical Center, California, in August 2009, and also had the opportunity to attend 3 Supine PCNL courses in Italy (Milan 2013, 2014 & Turin-2012) which enabled him to develop supine PCNL in his urology unit. 

Mr Nalagatla is a GMC recognised Educational and Clinical Supervisor to urology speciality trainees and surgical core trainees. He is a faculty member in several training courses at a regional and national level (BAUS FRCS Urology Exam Revision Course, Urology Boot Camp, RCS Ed recognised Core Skills in Ureteroscopy Course for core and speciality trainees).

He has been nominated as an External Adviser for consultant posts in Scotland in Urology by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, which started in 2016, and was also nominated as the Chair of the West of Scotland Urology Service Review: Stone Subgroup Meetings. He is the co-ordinator for monthly CME urology activities (CME Lead). He also has a research degree MD from the University of Glasgow. His research project was “The Role of AP-1 Transcription Factor expression in Androgen Sensitive & Androgen Independent Prostate Cancer” and he has numerous publications in several peer reviewed Journals.
