Training and Experience

Sarah graduated in Medicine from the University of Bristol in 1997 (MBChB), completed a Doctorate in Medicine (MD), and was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (FRCS) in 2010. She undertook Specialist Higher Surgical Training in leading units across the South West and Cambridge before being appointed in Bath in 2013 as the city's first female Consultant General Surgeon.

Since then, she has developed a national reputation for advancing day-case keyhole surgery pathways, with this work adopted by hospitals across the UK and internationally. Her clinical practice combines laparoscopic (keyhole), robotic assisted and open techniques, allowing her to offer the approach best suited to each patient's individual needs.

Specialist Gallbladder Surgery

Gallbladder problems can cause severe pain, disruption to everyday life and repeated hospital visits. Sarah specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of gallstones and gallbladder disease, including:

Within the local NHS she has served as Deputy Chief Medical Officer and is currently a Medical Director.  She has also contributed nationally as a National Clinical Lead at NHS England and Specialty Advisor in Emergency General Surgery to the Royal College of Surgeons. A particular focus of this work is supporting innovation that improves patients' experience of care and enables more surgery to be carried out safely as day-case treatment.

Her contributions to surgery and education have been recognised through several awards, including Surgical Trainer of the Year for the South West, and she has published extensively in peer-reviewed medical journals.
