Sarah supports patients to understand nutrition and provides the tools and support to allow them to make positive sustained healthy dietary and lifestyle changes.
In her current role, leading on type 2 diabetes remission, delivering Counterweight Plus, she works closely with patients to achieve their weight loss goals and reverse their diabetes. The 800 calorie, formula total diet replacement plan, used in the landmark DiRECT Trial, is the only evidence-based diabetes remission programme within the UK. She finds supporting patients on their personal weight loss journey and seeing the life changing benefits hugely satisfying.
Sarah adopts a holistic approach; she views the body as an entire system and looks at all aspects of an individual’s lifestyle including gut health. She is trained in psychological motivational interviewing and behavioural change techniques to support patients to explore ‘why’ and ‘what’ makes us eat and re-assign their relationship with food for longer term success.
Sarah also supports patients at risk of developing diabetes, a condition known as pre diabetes, to understand their condition and provides a personalised tailored plan with the aim of preventing diabetes in the future.
She has worked extensively with patients with type 1 diabetes. As a trained DAFNE educator and time spent working in young person’s diabetes clinics she is aware of the daily challenges of living with this long-term condition. She aims to provide individualised advice and carbohydrate counting to support patients to have a greater understanding of the impact of different food groups and activity on their blood glucose. She provides education and tools to allow patients the flexibility of adjusting insulin to fit around their diet and lifestyle.
Sarah is a member of the British Dietetic Association (BDA) and has taught on the British Dietetic Association Advanced Diabetes Care Course. During her time in London she was a guest lecturer at University College London.
