About Mr Sanjay Banypersad

Personal Profile

Dr. Sanjay Banypersad is the Lead for Advanced Cardiac Imaging at the East Lancashire NHS Trust. He performs several hundred cardiac CT and MRI scans per year, as well as transoesophageal and stress echocardiography.

He is the only Cardiologist to offer all Cardiac Imaging modalities in a District General Hospital in the North West and can readily diagnose heart conditions efficiently using these non-invasive methods. Please see his website for further details on these.

Privately, he can see patients with chest pain, breathlessness, palpitations and blackouts and perform the above tests all within a few days. Dr. Banypersad will listen to you, ensure you understand the diagnosis and management plans, supported by the patient testimonial videos on his website.

Training & Appointments

Dr. Banypersad graduated from the University of Sheffield in 2002. He undertook his 3 year Research programme at the University College of London (UCL), where he helped countless patients with Amyloidosis gain access to cardiac MRI scans, an crucial imaging tool in this condition and was instrumental in subsequently setting up the cardiac MRI service for the UCL National Amyloidosis Centre at the Royal Free Hospital in London.

He has published widely and presented globally, culminating in his Doctorate of Medicine degree (MD) from UCL in 2014. He completed his Cardiology training in Manchester in 2015 when he was appointed as a Consultant Cardiologist and Cardiac Imaging Lead at the East Lancashire NHS Trust.

He has set up and developed the cardiac CT and MRI service at the Royal Blackburn Hospital since his appointment there.

Achievements

Dr. Banypersad has received several prestigious International awards for his work in cardiac imaging, most notably from:

  1. The American Heart Association, Dallas, USA (2013)
  2. International Amyloidosis Symposium, Netherlands, (2012)
  3. Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance, New Orleans, USA (2014).

He had the unique and distinguished honour of being asked to present his research work to HRH Princess Anne in 2011. Dr. Banypersad continues to teach junior doctors, medical students and nursing / pharmacy students on a regular basis, through teaching programmes at UCLan and University of Manchester.
