Miss Samantha Tross is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in treating conditions of the hip and knee. She is the immediate past Lead of the Orthopaedic Department of Ealing Hospital, part of London North West University Hospitals NHS Trust.  When she was appointed in 2005, she became the first female of Afro-Caribbean descent to become a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in the UK. She scored another first in 2018, becoming the first woman in Europe to perform Mako robotic hip surgery.

Apart from her clinical work she oversees the orthopaedic training of junior doctors and surgeons in her hospital. She is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Medical Case Report and examiner for medical school final examinations for Imperial College, London and University of the West Indies in Trinidad and Tobago. She is also the secretary for the International Orthopaedic Diversity Alliance, Founder Member and Trustee of the British Association of Black Surgeons and member of the Royal College of Surgeons EDI Forum and Cultural and Diversity Committee of the British Hip Society.

Miss Tross qualified from University College London, undertook basic surgical training on the Royal London Hospital rotation and higher surgical training on the Guy & St, Thomas’s Hospital/ South East Thames rotation. Thereafter she undertook Fellowship training in Toronto, Canada and Sydney, Australia in primary and revision hip and knee surgery, arthroscopic knee surgery and minimally invasive surgery. Miss Tross does not currently off revision knee surgery as when she joined her NHS Trust, this service was already being offered by one of her colleagues.

Miss Tross has been profiled in a number of books, the British Medical Journal and Stylist magazine. She is featured in the Hunterian Museum of the Royal College of Surgeons, England, also in a recent infomercial by Birkenstock ‘Finding your Feet. Part 2’, where she talks about the importance of feet on the pain experienced in the hip and knee. She has received of a Black British Business Award, is listed in the Powerlist of 100 most Influential Black Britons since 2012 and featured in a photographic exhibition of 15 black female leaders from different sectors commissioned by the Black Cultural Archives and JPMorgan.
