Samantha Williams was appointed as a Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon at The Great Western Hospital, Swindon in October 2019.

Miss Williams gained her medical degree from Imperial College School of Medicine, in 2005. After completing foundation training in London, she attained a run-through training number for General Surgery in the Severn Deanery in 2007. On completing general surgical training, she was awarded the prestigious TIG (Training Interface Group) fellowship, receiving further training in cosmetic, plastic and oncoplastic breast surgery. During this fellowship she worked under renowned breast and plastic surgeons, gaining sub-specialist experience in both disciplines.

Miss Williams has a specialist interest in breast conservation surgery for breast cancer, including therapeutic mammoplasty (reduction pattern lumpectomy) and chest wall perforator flap reconstructions to remove large cancers without the need for mastectomy. Miss Williams is a part of the Great Western Hospital multidisciplinary team working collaboratively to gain the best possible outcome for her patients. She works alongside plastic surgeons in the local area to perform mastectomies for DIEP (autologous / own tissue) breast reconstruction. She will always work alongside a breast care nurse in patients diagnosed with cancer.

In 2017, she won the Severn Deanery trainee of the year (awarded to the top trainee in the South West) for her dedication to education and training. This is an interest she continues as a consultant in her current role as Undergraduate Surgical Tutor for Bristol, Kings and Oxford medical students.

Miss Williams is committed to high standards and best practice. She is the clinical governance lead for the breast surgical department in the Great Western Hospital and is responsible for investigations into any complications, regularly auditing her own and as well as the departments standards.
