About Mr Sam Mahmood

Personal Profile

Mr Mahmood is a NHS Consultant ophthalmic surgeon at Lister Hospital, Stevenage and New QE II, Welwyn Garden City. Mr Mahmood has been awarded a Diploma in Cataract and Refractive Surgery from Ulster University, UK.

He carries out cataract surgery in patients with or without retinal disorders.

His busy clinical practice is complemented by his involvement in teaching and research. He lectures widely to doctors, surgeons, patient groups, GPs and other health professionals. He has published research work and articles in the international peer reviewed journals.

He completed his basic ophthalmic specialist training in Tennent Institute of Ophthalmology, UK, followed by training at University Hospital of Leicester. Mr Mahmood's subspecialty training culminated in a two-year retina and uveitis at prestigious University Hospital of Cambridge and Moorfields Eye Hospital in London.

As a lead for urgent eye care and rapid access service, he is dedicated to ensuring that the services we offer are safe, effective, well led, caring and responsive.
