Hand conditions have always interested Miss Phillips; particularly the combination of complex anatomy with fine detailed treatment to improve a patient’s overall hand function.
Miss Sally-Anne Phillips is the only Consultant Orthopaedic Hand and Wrist Surgeon in Scotland offering Kerimedical (Medartis) Touch® thumb CMCJ replacement surgery to private patients. This innovative prosthesis is designed with the patient in mind, offering numerous lengths and sizes of implant to create 144 possible combinations in order to fit as close as possible to the patient’s individual anatomy.
Miss Phillips' medical training was at University College London where she obtained a BSc (Hons) in the History of Medicine before finishing her medical degree. She completed both her basic surgical and orthopaedic training in the South East of Scotland, working at the renowned Edinburgh Orthopaedic Unit. In 2016 she was selected for the prestigious Training Interface Group Hand Fellowship where she worked for a year with hand specialists at Newcastle Upon Tyne. She then undertook and achieved the British Hand Surgery Diploma. This is a postgraduate examination awarded by the University of Manchester recognising excellence in knowledge and application of hand surgery.
Sally-Anne Phillips has multiple research publications and in 2014, she was awarded a MD by the University of Edinburgh for her research work into T lymphocytes and the immune system. Currently, she is a primary investigator for the DISC trial, a multi-centred randomised control trial comparing surgery versus collagenase injection in patients with Dupuytren’s disease.
