About Professor Ruth Murphy

Personal Profile

Professor Murphy has been a consultant since 2001, working both in the NHS and private sector. She is known nationally and internationally for her work in Dermatology and is an Honorary Professor at the University of Sheffield.  She has been President of the British Association of Dermatologists, President of the British Society of Paediatric Dermatologists and is currently President of the British Society for Vulvar Disease and as the nominated UEMS representative, leads Specialist Training In Dermatology on behalf of the UK in Europe.

She has a busy clinical practice caring for adults and children with the whole range of skin disorders, including genital skin disease in all age groups. She is a core member and takes part weekly, in specialised skin cancer meetings.

She worked at the Royal College of Physicians for 6 years leading the training of Consultant Dermatologists at a local and national level in her role as Chair of the Specialty Advisory Committee in Dermatology.

Her research interests, publications, lectures and supervised PhDs and MScs have been in inflammatory skin disease, genital skin problems and medical education. She has both led and contributed to national guidelines in the management of skin disease.
