About Dr Runa Saha

Personal Profile

Dr Runa Saha is an experienced General Practitioner with 20 years of clinical experience across NHS and private primary care. After completing her education at Caistor Grammar School, she graduated from the University of Leicester in 1999 and completed postgraduate training in General Practice following a broad range of hospital posts including obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, accident and emergency, surgery and general medicine. She was awarded Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners (MRCGP) in 2006 and has since developed a portfolio career combining frontline clinical practice with medical education and healthcare leadership. She has also undertaken formal postgraduate training in medical education, including a PGCert and PGDip in Medical Education, alongside Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).

Dr Saha’s clinical practice is grounded in a holistic and relationship-based approach to patient care. She has a strong interest in continuity of care, preventative medicine and supporting patients to navigate increasingly complex healthcare systems. She believes that effective communication, trust and understanding are central to good General Practice and values building long-term therapeutic relationships with patients and families. Her approach focuses not only on diagnosis and treatment, but also on understanding the wider social, psychological and practical factors that influence health and wellbeing. She is particularly passionate about making healthcare more accessible and easier for patients to navigate, recognising that many individuals can feel overwhelmed by fragmented systems and pathways of care.

She spent over 15 years working at Abbey Medical Practice in Lincoln as both a salaried GP and GP Partner, caring for patients with a wide range of acute and chronic medical conditions. During this time, she developed extensive experience in women’s health, safeguarding, urgent care, chronic disease management and multidisciplinary working. Clinically she currently works in both NHS and Private General Practice, providing face-to-face and remote consultations for adults and children across a broad spectrum of medical presentations.

Alongside her clinical work, Dr Saha has maintained a longstanding involvement in medical education and workforce development. She previously held senior academic roles at the University of Nottingham and Lincoln Medical School, including Clinical Associate Professor of Medical Education, Academic Primary Care Lead and Director of Professionalism. Her work included curriculum development, student support, professionalism teaching and quality assurance within undergraduate medical education. She also served as Medical Director of Lincolnshire Training Hub for ten years, leading initiatives to support workforce education, recruitment and retention across primary care.

Dr Saha continues to contribute to postgraduate training through her role as Programme Director for the NHS England “New to the NHS” programme, supporting doctors and GP trainees transitioning into UK healthcare practice, particularly international medical graduates. She has extensive experience as a GP Trainer, mentor, examiner and appraiser, and remains committed to supporting the future healthcare workforce while continuing to prioritise compassionate, patient-centred clinical care.

Clinical Interests

Dr Runa Saha’s clinical interests focus on holistic, patient-centred General Practice, with particular emphasis on continuity of care, communication and building trusted therapeutic relationships with patients and families. She has broad experience managing acute and chronic conditions across NHS and private primary care, with additional interests in women’s health, preventative medicine and mental wellbeing. She is particularly passionate about improving access to healthcare and supporting patients to navigate increasingly complex healthcare systems in a way that feels clear, personalised and supportive.
