Mr Lawrence qualified from Glasgow University in 1983 and obtained his FRCS four years later. He moved to University College Hospital, London for higher surgical training and laser surgical research. He was appointed as a Senior Registrar to the Wessex Rotation in 1994, working in Portsmouth, Southampton and Bournemouth. He has worked as a Consultant General Surgeon in Swindon since 1996. He has been an Examiner in the MRCS since 1999 both in the UK and overseas. He is currently the Director of Surgical Examinations for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. He also sits on the MRCS Part A Paper Panel and was involved with the redesign of the MRCS Examination in 2004.
